The croat is a historical Catalan silver coin, created in 1285 by King Peter III the Great of Aragon (Peter I of Valencia and Peter II of Barcelona). It was known as croat barceloní or xamberg and was one of the longest-lasting and most widely circulated coins in Catalan numismatic history, remaining in use for almost 500 years, until the beginning of the 18th century.
