Clodius Albinus (Decimus Clodius Ceionius Septimius Albinus) was a prominent Roman military leader and politician born in Hadrumetum (North Africa, 147 AD), who after the death of Emperor Pertinax in 193 AD became one of the main contenders for the imperial throne. Initially an ally of Septimius Severus and appointed Caesar, he ruled Britannia, Gaul and part of Hispania, but ended up facing Severus in a civil war that culminated in his defeat at the Battle of Lugdunum (197 AD), after which he committed suicide.
