Historical context
Sabina was the wife of Emperor Hadrian and the great-niece of Emperor Trajan, which connected her directly to two of the most important emperors of the High Roman Empire. Coins bearing her effigy consolidate her status as Augusta (empress), and her noble hairstyle followed the courtly fashions of the period.
The representation of Ceres, goddess of agriculture and fertility, underscores themes of abundance, fecundity, and harmony under the principate of Hadrian, in addition to reinforcing the ideal image of Sabina as a benefactor and maternal figure of the Empire.
