VITELIUS (69 AD). Denarius. Rome.
Aulus Vitellius was a Roman emperor who briefly ruled during the turbulent year 69 AD, known as the "Year of the Four Emperors". Born in 15 AD into a noble family, Vitellius rose to power after being proclaimed emperor by the legions of Germania Inferior, defeating his rival Otho at the First Battle of Bedriacum. His reign, lasting only eight months, was marked by disorder, extravagance, and political instability, which quickly eroded his support. He was ultimately overthrown and executed by the forces of Vespasian, who established the Flavian dynasty, ending one of the most chaotic periods in Roman imperial history.
