Birth Kings
Artabanus III (sometimes called IV) (c. 80-90 AD)
Silver Drachm (AR Drachm)
Artabanus III, also known as Ardaván III, reigned for approximately 10 years. He is best known for being a rival of Pacorus II in the struggle for the Parthian Empire's crown, even rebelling against him. During his reign, Artabanus III controlled part of the Parthian territory and proclaimed himself king on coins minted in his name, where he called himself Arsaces Artabanes.

Politically, Artabanus III had enough strength to support Terentius Maximus, a Roman pretender who impersonated Nero in Asia Minor, although he ultimately could not maintain his position against the power of Pacorus II, who succeeded him again after his defeat.
